Facial Treatments: My Personal Facial Treatment

Hi, my name is Charise and I'm the owner of Simplicity. I would like to talk about facial treatments and I am going to show you my personal facial treatment I do every 4 to 6 weeks. I will also explain the fabulous skincare products I used which I also use in my salon.

A good skincare routine typically starts with cleansing your face and using sunscreen during the day. From there, you can add additional products based on your skin type and concerns. It's also important to stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet.

Good skincare can provide numerous benefits such as preventing premature aging, improving skin texture, reducing acne breakouts, boosting confidence, protecting against environmental damage, and promoting overall skin health.

So what is a facial?

A facial is a family of skin care treatments for the face, including steam, exfoliation, extraction, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage. They are normally performed in beauty salons but are also a common spa treatment. They are used for general skin health as well as for specific skin conditions.

Facial steaming can help to open up your pores, increase circulation, and hydrate your skin. It can also help to loosen any buildup of dirt, oil, or makeup, making it easier to cleanse your face thoroughly. Additionally, some people find that facial steaming can help to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that involves using a surgical scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells and fine hairs from the face. It aims to leave the skin smoother and brighter.

A hydrating facial mask is a skincare product designed to provide extra moisture and hydration to the skin. It typically contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and glycerin that help to soothe and moisturize the skin, leaving it looking plump and healthy.

Hydrating facial masks can help to improve the overall hydration and moisture levels of your skin, leaving your skin feeling softer, plumper, and more supple. The benefits of using a hydrating facial mask may include improved skin elasticity, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and a more youthful and radiant complexion. Additionally, hydrating masks can help to soothe and calm dry or irritated skin, making them a great choice for those with sensitive or dry skin types.

Specialized products for areas of concern around your face can provide targeted and effective solutions for specific issues such as fine lines, dark circles, or uneven skin tone. They often contain unique ingredients and formulations that address these concerns more effectively than general skincare products.

Serums are used after cleansing and toning to provide targeted treatments and nourishing benefits to the skin. They are typically lightweight and contain high concentrations of active ingredients that can penetrate deeply into the skin. This can help to address specific skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, or dehydration. By using a serum, you can enhance the effectiveness of your skincare routine and achieve healthier, more radiant-looking skin.

Daily moisturizing is important because it helps to keep your skin hydrated, soft, and healthy. It can also help to prevent dryness, flakiness, and itching, and can even help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. In addition, moisturizing can provide a protective barrier for your skin against environmental stressors such as pollution and harsh weather conditions.

Sunscreen is important because it helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays, which can cause skin cancer, premature aging, and sunburn. It is recommended to use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and to reapply every two hours when outside.

As a general rule, you should apply skincare products in order of consistency, starting with the thinnest and ending with the thickest. Here's a basic guide:

  •  Cleanser
  • Toner
  •  Serums
  • Eye cream
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen (during the day)

However, it's important to note that everyone's skincare routine may vary depending on their specific skin concerns and the products they use.

So let's have a look at my basic personal facial treatment that I do once every 4 to 6 weeks. Please note this is just the treatment and not my daily routine which I adjust to my skin's needs.

To start make sure you have all the products, in this case, I am using the Nutricentials rage from Nu Skin, including the equipment that you would need, then make sure your face is cleared from loose hairs around your face by using a headband then I start with the following:

Facial steam

As you get ready to begin your skincare routine, a common question is, “Do you cleanse before or after steaming your face?” The answer is to cleanse your face before steaming. Cleansing your face first removes makeup and dirt. Since I had a clean face already, meaning no make-up or skincare products, this is where I started to open up my pores. If I had make-up on, I first would have used my cleanser and combined my steaming with the use of my scrub. I personally find this better for me, but this might not suit everyone.

Cleanser

A face cleanser is made to purify, hydrate, and soothe your skin. The texture will be creamy, milky, gel-like, or even watery. Conversely, a face wash is made to clean your pores more deeply. The texture is often foamy or will lather into foam when applied to your damp skin.

It is important to use a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type. A proper cleanse allows your skin to receive product properly and allows that product to fully and properly penetrate into the outer layer of the skin.

I used To Be Clear Facial Cleansing Gel. This powerful clear gel-to-foam cleanser removes pore-blocking dirt, oil, and make-up and refreshes your skin.

Scrub

Facial skin is sensitive, thinner, and more prone to damage as compared to the skin on other parts of the body. Improper skincare, pollution, etc, can lead to rough, dull skin. Facial scrubs improve the texture of the skin by encouraging the skin renewal process.

The primary goal of exfoliating is to remove dead, dry surface skin cells and promote a smoother, more even skin texture. And while all exfoliants provide these benefits, physical exfoliants like scrubs work to slough dead skin instantly.

If you have sensitive skin, use extra gentle scrubs with very fine and rounded abrasives. For oily skin that is more prone to blemishes, a product with an antibacterial effect is more suitable.

I love using the Brighter Day Exfoliant Scrub. This innovative exfoliant scrub removes dead skin cells and pore-blocking impurities to leave your complexion looking smooth and glowing brightly.

Toner

Your skincare routine doesn’t stop at cleansing and not only does a high-quality toner work as skin prep, but it works post-mask (or post-exfoliator) too. Use a toner after mask to provide a myriad of different benefits to the skin: Saturate the skin with problem-solving ingredients.

It’s essential to follow up with a refreshing burst of hydration, and In Balance is perfect for the job as it is made with bioadaptive botanicals, helps adjust skin to its optimal pH level, and provides an immediate boost of hydration after cleansing.

Dermplaning

Dermaplaning is used to treat deep acne scars with a hand-held instrument called a dermatome. The dermatome looks like an electric razor and has an oscillating blade that moves back and forth to evenly "skim" off the surface layers of skin that surround the craters, or other facial defects.

The basic concept of dermaplaning is the same as shaving. By aiming a sterile blade at a 45-degree angle and dragging it slowly across your skin, you remove dead cells, scar tissue, and other debris that may be making your skin's surface look uneven. It can help minimize the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and dull skin. The procedure can reveal smoother, firmer, and healthier skin.

Mask

The mask traps the moisture or ingredient in the skin and creates a film that helps to either hydrate, moisturize, dry, or exfoliate the skin depending on the ingredients used and its purpose. Therefore, face masks allow ingredients to penetrate better into your skin in a short amount of time.

I prefer using the Spa Day Creamy Hydrating Masque, especially after Dermaplaning as its hydrating formula works to lock moisture into the skin, leaving it looking dewy.

At this stage of the facial treatment, I like to target specific areas of concern: fine lines around the mouth, eyes, and forehead; overall dryness and/or dullness; Skin tone and sun exposure. The Nutricentials range from Nu Skin recently launched three new products called Pumps in South Africa, and they are just amazing as they target multiple skincare concerns at once. You can easily layer all three products (just allow each one to dry properly) for ultimate results.

  •   Bakuchiol included in a concentrated form helps gently even skin tone and decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Ceramides + Postbiotics help protect the skin against and increase its resiliency. At the same time, a concentrated blend of skin-identical ceramides and a postbiotic help protect and strengthen your skin’s vital moisture barrier.
  •  Hyaluronic Acid + B5 helps protect against and increase resiliency to the negative effects of environmental stressors like pollution and oxidative stress. At the same time, thanks to a deeply moisturising, specially formulated Hyaluronic Acid cocktail and Vitamin B5 this concentrated serum helps you personalise your daily regimen with great hydration.

Serum

Known for their effectiveness, face serums are often used to manage specific skin concerns such as wrinkles, acne, dry skin, and dullness. They are designed to brighten, hydrate and provide a variety of benefits, depending on the types of serum you use.

You can take control of your skin with Celltrex Always Right Recovery Fluid. Featuring its smart HydraFlex Blend, this lightweight, fast-absorbing serum keeps your skin looking radiant during the day and complements its ability to bounce back from environmental stressors during the night.

Moisturiser

Moisturizer creates a barrier between your skin and the climate, including cold, dry air that can further dry out the skin. Moisture in your skin helps it repair itself constantly. This comes in handy down the line if your skin is damaged by something more serious, like the sun, or an infection. A good amount of moisture in your skin also helps reduce the likeliness of skin problems.

The bioadaptive botanicals from Thirst Fix Hydrating Gel Cream help increase your skin’s ability to adapt to its environment. Enjoying smoother, beautiful-looking skin thanks to the burst of moisture that comes from every application of this oil-free facial hydrating gel cream.

Sunscreen

Wearing sunscreen is one of the best — and easiest — ways to protect your skin's appearance and health at any age. Used regularly, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer, and premature aging

I use the Complexion Protection Daily Mineral Sunscreen for a luminous glow and protection, all year round. This lightweight, broad-spectrum SPF 50 mineral sunscreen help protects your skin against the negative effects of excessive UV, blue light, and infrared exposure, including skin discoloration, dullness, and premature visible signs of skin aging.

Your skincare routine does not need to be complicated, as long as you stick to the basics. The basic three: are to cleanse, moisturise, and protect with sunscreen. It's super simple but gets the job done. In the morning, cleanse your skin to start the day then put on a moisturizing sunscreen. At night, cleanse your skin again to remove any residual makeup and sweat from the day then finish with a moisturiser. Consistency is the key when it comes to skincare. Real results will not show up overnight so be patient and stick to your skincare routine daily. It's the only way that you will achieve real, visible results!
